Fnatic Jet Mousepad & Bolt Wireless Mouse Review

The Fnatic Jet mousepad immediately stands out from the crowd with its holographic design, but it’s the low-friction texture that has impressed me in the month that I’ve been using it alongside the Fnatic Bolt wireless mouse. As someone who usually opts for a more control-oriented pad, the speed of the Jet has been a challenge to get used to. Ultimately, however, I’ve been convinced that I prefer the speed boost for more effortless gaming.

Smooth from the start

A cylindrical tube houses the Jet mousepad, keeping it free from any bends. It’s a premium solution, but the extra protection is much appreciated. Laying the Jet on my desk, I found that it immediately laid flat. It also smelled neutral, which often isn’t the case with desk mats. 

Looking more closely at the pad, I was happy to see that the edge stitching is very tight and not abrasive. You can slide your arm across the edge for many hours without issue. 

Unique aesthetic

Up close, the Jet pad has a purple shine to it, but this goes away when you look at it from far away. From a distance, it seems more gray. It’s an interesting coating that certainly makes for a unique look.

When it comes to gaming with the Fnatic Jet in tandem with the Bolt mouse, the experience is very fast and fluid. The low-friction pad pairs well with the PTFE mouse feet, generating an effortless glide. 

Rewarding patience

I’d be lying if I said that the combo didn’t take some getting used to. Thankfully, the Bolt’s safe shape, size, and weight were easy to master, with the tried-and-true PixArt 3370 never skipping a beat. Mouse 1 and 2 feel great, too, and the side buttons are fine, though my variant’s are a little mushier than I’d like. Battery life in wireless mode is great, too, though the high-quality USB-C charging cable can be used without frustration if you’re caught in a pinch.

While I’ve now got used to the Jet and prefer it over my control pads for games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, as well as old-school experiences like DOOM, the lack of friction initially presented issues. Minor movements from barely touching the mouse would be reflected onscreen, with the Jet demanding more discipline. Once mastered, however, this bump-up in responsiveness can make you quicker on the draw with movements, potentially meaning the difference between winning and losing a gunfight.

More accessible than glass

It’s almost as though Fnatic is trying to take the advantages that come with a glass pad but them more accessible to the common gamer. With prices starting at $24.99, I think this is going to be a very popular choice for those wanting to try something a bit different.
