Hercules Stream 200 XLR Review

Hercules Stream 200 XLR Review

This Hercules Stream 200 XLR review takes a look at the company’s flagship product, targeted at those aiming to take their streaming quality to the next level. Audio is arguably the most important part of a streamer’s production, so it’s imperative that it’s done right. Thankfully, tools like the Stream 200 XLR are here to make the audio game that bit easier, allowing streamers to put their full focus on entertaining their (hopefully) growing audience.

A streamer’s best friend

Hercules Stream 200 XLR Review

The Hercules Stream 200 XLR is designed to cater to the needs of streamers who require real-time control over their audio sources. With its innovative built-in LCD screens, streamers can monitor and adjust the sound levels of various audio tracks individually. This includes game audio, chat software, background music, and microphone input, all in real-time, ensuring that every sound element is perfectly balanced.

The Hercules Stream 200 XLR model further enhances the audio streaming experience by offering a direct XLR input for professional microphones, supporting microphones like my higher-end Earthworks Ethos. Of course, elements of the Stream 100 can be found in this more premium version, like the four customizable buttons designed to execute a range of actions instantly, such as muting audio sources, launching URLs, and changing livestream scenes, among others.

Advanced audio solution

The Stream 200 XLR’s dual mix capability allows creators to monitor their live mix and make adjustments without affecting the audience’s audio experience. Additionally, the device’s capability to stream audio directly from a game console or second PC via an optical connector is a feature that competitors have missed. Sure, it might be a niche option in 2024, but I was very happy to see it included on the Stream 200 XLR.

The device’s design also deserves praise. It looks smart on the desk, without being overly gamer-y or taking up too much room. It’s also sturdy, with a weight that prevents it from sliding across the desk, and features digital knobs for smooth volume adjustments. The large rotary switch for headphone volume, adorned with a white LED ring, provides an intuitive and visually appealing way to control audio levels.

Not so easy

Hercules Stream 200 XLR Review

While the Stream 200 XLR’s complexity and range of features are its strengths, they could pose a challenge for beginners or streamers who prefer a more straightforward setup. With that said, it’s been good to see the official Hercules Audio YouTube channel uploading tutorials, which offer help for some common frequently asked questions.

Final Verdict

Coming in at $279.99, the Hercules Stream 200 XLR asks a lot, but it also delivers as a powerful tool for streamers looking to take things to the next level. If you’ve outgrown the Stream 100, then the 200 XLR is the next logical step, and I’m happy to give it the double thumbs-up after coming away very impressed.
