Keychron Q6 HE 8K review

Keychron Q6 HE 8K Gaming Keyboard Review

Full-sized keyboards are becoming increasingly rare in the gaming space, with most opting for more compact options that forgo the number pad, F-row, and even dedicated arrow keys. However, for those who desire the full-sized experience in a keyboard incorporating the latest gaming tech, the Keychron Q6 HE 8K is here to fill the gap. This is my review

Big features for a big keyboard

The Q6 HE 8K is a full-sized keyboard with a 6063 aluminum case and a double-gasket mount design intended to improve typing comfort and reduce harsh acoustic resonance. It uses Keychron’s Lime magnetic switches and supports per-key actuation adjustment from 0.1 mm to 3.35 mm. This gives it the potential to be both a workhorse for data entry jobs and spreadsheet work, while also being a killer gaming peripheral.

Those magnetic switches come in handy as they allow for features like Dynamic Rapid Trigger, DKS multi-action depth mapping, Snap Click, Last Key Priority behavior, and Analog Mode. These are particularly useful in competitive shooting games, though they can also come in handy for racers and other genres.

The web app

Keychron’s web app makes configuring the keyboard easy enough. Remapping, macros, setting actuation points, RGB lighting control, and polling rates up to 8,000 Hz can all be personalized within the web app, meaning no unnecessary installs or software running in your PC’s background.

The biggest benefit of the magnetic platform here is flexibility. With per-key actuation tuning, you can set movement and ability keys to ultra-light activation for fast gaming inputs, while keeping other keys slightly deeper for cleaner typing. Rapid Trigger adds another layer of responsiveness, especially in shooters where stop-start motion and fast strafing matter.

Unsurprisingly massive

Keychron Q6 HE 8K review

As you can probably imagine, one of the Q6 HE 8K’s biggest strengths is also one of its biggest weaknesses. The sheer size and weight of this beast severely limits portability. Put this thing in your backpack — assuming your backpack is somehow tall enough — and you’ll certainly feel it!

The other key downside is that this keyboard only works with Keychron Lime magnetic switches. While I think these switches are superb, potential buyers should note this limitation.

Final Verdict

At $239.99, the Keychron Q6 HE 8K is a high-end full-sized keyboard that prioritizes versatility and advanced input control. Its strengths lie in build quality and configurability, while its size and switch limitations may narrow its appeal. Ultimately, it’s a focused option for those who want a modern take on a traditional full-sized layout.
