ASUS ROG Strix Morph 96 Wireless review

ASUS ROG Strix Morph 96 Wireless Gaming Keyboard Review

The ASUS ROG Strix Morph 96 Wireless is a gaming keyboard that tries to appeal to both competitive players and keyboard enthusiasts. It packs in a compact 96% layout, hot-swappable switches, gasket mounting, tri-mode wireless, and a design that is more customizable than most mainstream gaming boards. On paper, that gives it a lot going for it, especially with a competitive price tag. Here is my review.

Big and small

ASUS ROG Strix Morph 96 Wireless review

With the ROG Strix Morph 96 Wireless, ASUS has made an interesting choice with the 96% layout. While many modern gaming keyboards go tenkeyless and ditch the number pad to save space, ASUS has gone in a different direction. Thankfully, the keyboard still feels relatively compact, so it lands in a nice middle ground for people who want a number pad without giving up too much desk space for mouse movement.

It is also good to see ASUS leaning harder into customization. Yes, there is the expected software-based personalization through Gear Link, but the more important part is the hardware side. The hot-swappable switches mean the included NX V2 switches can be replaced if you want something different later on. That said, the stock switches are smooth enough that many users may never feel the need.

ASUS seems to understand that buyers in this category increasingly want the option to tweak and experiment, and the extra accessibility here feels like a step in the right direction.

If you leave it as it comes out of the box, the typing experience is still one of the keyboard’s stronger points. Mainstream gaming brands often focus on software features and flashy extras while overlooking typing feel and acoustics, so it was refreshing to find stabilizers that stayed impressively controlled with very little rattle. That is often an easy weak point on boards like this, and ASUS has done well here.

RGB lighting is also present and I’m particularly happy about the side-lighting which is a bit more unique. It is bright enough to stand out, but the overall look of the keyboard avoids going too far into overdesigned gamer territory. There is still plenty of personality, though, and I think ASUS has struck a good balance.

Let’s get gaming

ASUS ROG Strix Morph 96 Wireless review

In actual games, the ROG Strix Morph 96 Wireless performs well. In titles like Arc Raiders and Call of Duty, the 2.4 GHz connection felt reliable and the switches stayed responsive. At no point did the keyboard feel like the thing holding me back, which is really what you want from a wireless gaming board.

That said, it is worth pointing out what is missing. This keyboard does not use Hall Effect or TMR switches, and that matters in a market where magnetic switch features are becoming increasingly expected by competitive players. If you are specifically looking for adjustable actuation, rapid trigger, or that broader set of magnetic-switch tricks, you will not get them here. There is Speed Tap, but it is not a substitute for the adjustable actuation and rapid-trigger features you get with a magnetic switch board.

Final Verdict

At $139.99, the ASUS ROG Strix Morph 96 Wireless makes a solid case for itself. It offers a strong out-of-box typing experience, useful wireless flexibility, and more room for customization than many mainstream rivals. The lack of Hall Effect or TMR tech means it may not be the obvious choice for buyers chasing the newest competitive features, but for those who want a compact wireless keyboard that feels good to type on and leaves room to tinker later, it is an easy one to like.
