Octopath Traveler Difficulty Options: Can You Change the Difficulty in Octopath Traveler?

Octopath Traveler is proving to be quite the hit for Square Enix. The throwback JRPG has garnered largely positive reviews and has even outsold its initial shipment in Japan and the USA. Octopath Traveler sales have been great following its release date. However, it’s not all sunshine and lollipops. A few people have been claiming that the game is too difficult when playing as certain characters. Can we change the Octopath Traveler difficulty options? We’ll let you in on all there is to know below.

Octopath Traveler Difficulty: Can We Change the Game’s Difficulty Settings?

The bad news is, we cannot change the Octopath Traveler difficulty settings. If you’re finding that boss too hard, we’re afraid that you’ll just have to keep trying until you beat it. Our advice? Save often, so if you are finding something too difficult, you can always go back and grind for experience points and cash. The more money you have, the better equipment you can afford. The higher level you are, the stronger your team will be. You can’t simply head on into the game’s settings and change the difficulty if you’re finding it too easy or too difficult. What you see is what you get with Octopath Traveler.

Indeed, we reported earlier in the year that there will likely not be any Octopath Traveler DLC. If you’re finding the game too easy, there isn’t a more difficult “New Game Plus” mode to look forward to upon completing the game, either. A few of the characters do offer more difficult paths, at least.

While it is a shame that we can’t alter the Octopath Traveler difficulty settings, it sounds as though the game offers a decent challenge. For fans of old-school JRPGs, Octopath Traveler shouldn’t prove too taxing. It has up to 100 hours of gameplay, classic JRPG design and eight stories to dive into.
