Super Smash Bros Ultimate is out now, and if you’re anything like us you’re working hard on unlocking every character in the game. He’s not the most powerful character in the game, but Smash Ultimate Toon Link can be one of the most fun to play, especially with his instant Down + A move. But where’s this version of Link from? And how do you unlock Toon Link? We’ve got the answers.
Who is Toon Link?
Link, obviously, is the star of The Legend of Zelda series, and the adult version (as part of the original Smash Bros roster) is unlocked immediately. Toon Link, on the other hand, is the version of Link seen in the cel-shaded The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for the GameCube, and later for Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks for the DS. Toon Link’s not that powerful, hence why he’s only a C-Tier character, but he’s fast and can catch many opponents by surprise.
How to Unlock Smash Ultimate Toon Link
Like with other locked characters on Smash Ultimate roster, Toon Link can be unlocked in three ways. The first way is by playing through Classic Mode as a specific character, which in this case is Castlevania‘s Richter Belmont. You can play on any difficulty, as long as you complete it and beat Toon Link at the end. The catch, of course, is that you have to have Richter unlocked first. Alternatively, keeping playing through VS matches, and Toon Link will be unlocked after Sheik.
The final way is by playing through World of Light, Smash Ultimate‘s single-player campaign. Toon Link can be found relatively early, in the Forest Hill Zone section of the World of Light. Beat him here, or using any of these three methods, and you’ll be able to play The Wind Waker version of Link whenever you want.
