It’s no good just buying and being given a recovery item. Just having it in your possession doesn’t mean you’ll automatically be able to use it in a battle. Instead, you’ll need to go through some additional steps to register it.

  1. First, you’ll want to acquire a recovery item from a character or store. Vitadrinks are a good choice!
  2. Then you’ll want to go into your Items menu and locate the item that you’ll be wanting to use.
  3. Select the item and hit “Register” to assign it to your palette. Note the face button you assign it to, as this will be the button that needs pushing during battle.
  4. During battle, push up on the D-Pad to bring up the items menu. Push the corresponding face button to use the item.

That’s how you use items during battle in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. Now go out there and win some fights!
