What Fortnite season is it now? (2021)

Epic Games’ Fortnite is always evolving, introducing new seasons and crossovers. It keeps the popular battle royale title exciting, but it can also get confusing for casual and serious players alike. For example, many payers don’t know the number of the current or next seasonal events. So, what Fortnite season is it right now? Here’s the answer for any curious fans in 2021.

What season is Fortnite on right now 2021?

What Fortnite season is it

The current Fortnite seasonal event is Chapter 2, Season 7. This is the Fortnite season right now, having begun on June 8 and likely running until September 2021.

Most Fortnite seasons run for three months, making them quarterly occurrences for a total of four seasons per year — just like in real life. Seasons generally revolve around a central theme, for example, the current “Invasion” angle. In the ongoing Fortnite Season 7, aliens are invading and the game has new collabs with appropriate characters like Rick Sanchez. (Bizarrely, Rick’s also in Space Jam: A New Legacy.)

This release schedule would place the arrival of the next Fortnite season in September. The community doesn’t know too much about Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 8 just yet; there is a rumor surrounding one potential crossover, though. Leaks indicate that a Naruto skin could arrive as part of the next seasonal Battle Pass, along with an all-new explosive kunai weapon. Take that with a pinch of salt, however, as there’s no official confirmation at this time.

While the current Fortnite season right now is Season 7, it won’t stay that way for long. Chapter 2, Season 8 is coming up, then, somewhere down the line, the game will likely transition into Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 1. Although that might feel like a long way away, time really flies — Ghost of Tsushima’s already celebrating its first anniversary, for instance.

In other news, Fortnite will soon be playable on the Steam Deck. Don’t know what the Steam Deck is? Check out this explainer.
