Dark Souls III How To Play On a 120hz or 144hz Monitor

At the time of this writing Dark Souls 3 only supports a V-Synced framerate on PC. This poses a problem for PC gamers who have 120/144hz monitors, which results in frame skipping and in-game errors due to the game engine's design around 60 FPS play.

FromSoftware has not provided an easy solution for the problem, such as a forced 60 FPS limiter or 144hz support. However, you can force your monitor to run at 60hz, fixing the problem in the process, by doing the following.

Windows 10 instructions: Right click your desktop and select "Display settings". On the Display settings menu, click "Advanced display settings" toward the bottom while your 120hz/144hz monitor is selected in the area above (relevant if you have more than one monitor). On the new screen select "Display adapter properties on the bottom. In the new window, click the Monitor tab, and then under "Screen refresh rate" make sure that you have 60 Hertz selected. Click Apply or OK on the bottom to force 60hz.

Note that this change must be reversed if you plan to revert your monitor back to 120hz/144hz.

FromSoftware does not plan to patch in 144hz support, but an FPS limiter is possible.
