Red Dead Redemption PS5 Release Date: Is an RDR2 Remake Coming?

With remasters all the rage, there are constant rumors about what games could get the treatment next and a Red Dead Redemption 2 remaster is one that fans have long been requesting. With Rockstar’s Western game being one of the most successful releases of the last few years, it only seems like a matter of time before it gets updated for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Here we will look at when the new edition of RDR2 could launch and what enhancements could be included as part of any update.

Has Rockstar announced a Red Dead Redemption 2 PS5 remaster release date?

RDR2 was the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed 2010 title and launched for the PS4 and Xbox One in 2018. Gamers can already play the game on PS5 and Xbox Series X with slight improvements to the graphics and performance but fans have been asking for a proper updated release to take advantage of the more powerful hardware. Unfortunately, there’s currently no release date or any indication about when such an update could come out.

The Grand Theft Auto developer hasn’t officially confirmed that any updated version is on the way or that it is even in development. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that it won’t happen. Rockstar has a history of being secretive about the projects it is working on and could make a surprise announcement without any prior warning. Of course, there’s also been plenty of rumors that a possible remake could be on the horizon in the near future — leaker AccountNGT suggested as much in a now-deleted tweet. However, there hasn’t been any substantial evidence to suggest that is the case.

What improvements could RDR2 have in a PS5 update?

While there isn’t any official word on a potential RDR2 update, it’s possible to take a good guess about what it could include. The game has already seen an improved port launch on PC. This edition of the game included a number of enhancements to the visuals, with better lighting, longer draw distances, and more detailed textures. Additionally, it supported 4K resolution and HDR, along with faster frame rates above the locked-in 30 FPS on consoles.

Rockstar also recently released GTA 5 for PS5 and Xbox Series X, which boosted the frame rate, added ray-tracing and HDR support, and upped the resolution to 4K. This new edition of the title even came with faster loading times and immersive 3D audio, as well as a number of visual features that were previously only available on PC.

This isn’t the first time this year that fans have fueled speculation about possible Red Dead Redemption announcements. Back in January, rumors emerged that Red Dead Redemption 3 was in development despite the lack of comment from Rockstar.  In other news, GTA 5 now has a GTA+ subscription for GTA Online.
