Hogwarts Legacy

Should I Buy Hogwarts Legacy on PS5, Xbox, PC, or Nintendo Switch?

Whether to purchase Hogwarts Legacy on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, or Nintendo Switch is a question that many players have been asking before the game’s official release date of February 10. For players who own multiple platforms, it may be difficult to decide which console they should play the game on, considering that it is quite a hefty time investment at well over 40 hours. Here are some factors to consider before choosing whether to buy Hogwarts Legacy on PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo consoles, or on PC via Steam or Epic Games Store.

Which platform should you buy Hogwarts Legacy on?

Hogwarts Legacy PS5 Xbox Nintendo PC

Most players should purchase Hogwarts Legacy for PS5 or Xbox Series X|S for the earliest release time possible.

If you buy the Deluxe Edition or are somehow able to find a Collector’s Edition, you will get 72-hour early access, meaning that you can start playing the game on February 7 whenever midnight rolls around in your local time zone. Even if you get the standard edition of the game on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, you will have a slight head start over those on PC who will only be able to download the game at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. PC players also can’t pre-load the game until then, unlike those on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

If you are trying to decide between PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, we should note that the PlayStation version of the game (this includes the PS4) has a timed-exclusive quest that will allow you to purchase a shop in Hogsmeade. It will be at least a year before this quest is available to those on Xbox, Switch, or PC.

On other console platforms, Hogwarts Legacy will launch on April 4 for PS4 and Xbox One, and on July 25 for Nintendo Switch. The graphics and overall performance for the games for these versions will of course suffer a bit compared to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

However, if you care about graphics and your PC is capable of meeting the game’s requirements for Ultra or even Ultra 4K, then waiting about half a day to play Hogwarts Legacy at launch is likely worth it. The PC version will also be open to mods eventually from the community, so that’s worth considering too.
