Hogwarts Legacy: Can You Be Evil?

You can’t be evil in Hogwarts Legacy because the game doesn’t have a morality system. You can be mean to people, and they’ll respond accordingly, but there aren’t any consequences. You’ll experience the same story whether you’re sweet as pie or sour as a lemon.

Does it matter if you’re bad in Hogwarts Legacy?

You won’t find yourself going down a different narrative path if you decide to be as evil as possible in Hogwarts Legacy. During most conversations you have with others, you get a good and bad option to choose from. So, you might think this plays into some morality system. However, that’s not the case.

You can be as evil as possible to everyone you encounter, and there are no long-term consequences. People will still talk to you as usual, and you’re not barred from any activities. As a result, every student at Hogwarts seems to have an extremely short memory and is incredibly naive. This is in stark contrast to a century later when people can’t even say the bad guy’s name without getting afraid.

Surprisingly, this lack of consequence even extends to something as serious as using the Unforgivable Curses. Canonically, using one of these spells gets you thrown into Azkaban for life. Here, NPCs will grumble if they’re nearby when you case Avada Kedavra, Crucio, or Imperio, but after all is said and done, your friends and instructors won’t bat an eye.

So, while you can act evil in Hogwarts Legacy, you can’t actually be evil. Being evil requires the world to recognize and fear you for your actions, which doesn’t happen here.
