Do You Need a PS5 for PSVR 2?

With PlayStation’s PSVR 2 release almost a week old now, buyers have been doing their due diligence before purchasing by asking all the right questions — with one of the most burning being if you need a PS5 to even use the new virtual reality headset. Given the equipment’s steep price point, those looking to dip their toes into the VR landscape would do well to ensure they know everything they can before splashing out.

Is a PS5 required to use PSVR 2?

Yes, a PS5 is needed to use the PSVR 2. The headset is cabled to the console during use and accesses game data and more through its connection. Although, it is worth pointing out that if you purchase the headset and already have a PS5, you don’t need a separate monitor. You can connect your PSVR2 and wear the headset to navigate the PS5 menus immediately.

While it’s not the greatest news for those looking to find a cheaper way into trying PlayStation VR, it looks to be the only method Sony has established, clearly wanting both the ps5 and PSVR2 to be partnered products for fans with the capital to burn on new experiences.
