PS5 Slim Release Date 2023

PS5 Slim Release Date 2023: Will There Be a Smaller Version?

The PS5 Slim release date has narrowed down significantly, with industry insiders believing that it will launch in a particular month in 2023. It was originally speculated last year that this smaller version of the PlayStation 5 may not be in production, since Sony had yet to confirm the PS5 Slim and was prioritizing the PSVR 2. But now we have a bit more information on the potential release date of this updated console.

What is the PS5 Slim release date?

The PS5 Slim release date is expected to be September 2023, based on various leaks from a number of insiders.

A source speaking anonymously with known insider Tom Henderson stated that there would be a PS5 with a detachable disc drive releasing in September 2023.

This report made in September 2022 has since been verified by another leaker for TheLeak.co who stated that the PS5 Slim would start production in Q2 2023 before releasing in Q3 2023. This leaker also claimed that the “PS5 Slim” might not be the final name of the console, with Sony possibly dropping the “Slim” moniker altogether.

Per usual, we recommend that you take these leaks and rumors with a grain of salt, though they all seem to be pointing in the same direction.

On the downside, Henderson also says that the detachable disc drive doesn’t look like it will be compatible with the current digital versions of the PS5 console. That said, Sony expects to sell 10.5 million PS5 consoles in the third quarter of FY 2023, with this figure apparently including sales of this PS5 Slim.
