Spiderman 2 DLC would let players continue their journey in New York City far past the confines of the base game. But not every game gets an expansion. So is there a Spiderman 2 DLC release date?
Is there going to be Spiderman 2 DLC?
While Spiderman 2 has a Digital Deluxe Edition that has 10 exclusive suits, Insomniac Games has not confirmed or denied whether or not Spiderman 2 will be getting traditional DLC or story-based expansions down the line. Outside of its PS5-exclusive Wolverine game, none of its upcoming projects have been made official. While another Spiderman game is seemingly inevitable given the critical and commercial success of the series, how it will continue remains a mystery.
Insomniac’s history also does not make this future any easier to pin down. The 2018 Spiderman got a trilogy of DLC episodes in The City That Never Sleeps. However, these were known about before the release of the base game and came out one month apart. The trailer for the first episode even debuted before the original game. Spiderman 2 has not emulated this, and Sony is not selling a season pass of any kind, both of which imply that DLC might not be in the cards for Spiderman 2.
It is also entirely possible that Insomniac is working on another stand-alone spin-off in the vein of Spiderman: Miles Morales. Miles Morales helped boost Spiderman sales up to 33 million as of June 2022 and had an average score of 85 on OpenCritic. It was quite a bit bigger than an expansion that also gave players a stopgap game between numbered installments. Spiderman 2’s ending leaves a few possible threads dangling, ones that seem fit for a smaller experience.
Insomniac has, however, confirmed that more suits are coming down the line. It didn’t reveal much, but noted that streetwear icon KidSuper will collaborate with fashion designer Rina Sawayama, F1 driver Lando Norris, and soccer player Vinicius Jr. for some new skins. The first Insomniac Spiderman game received suits all the way until Spiderman: No Way Home’s release in December 2022 and Miles Morales also received post-launch suits, showing a precedent for these games getting at least a few new costumes.
