The Finals Crash to Desktop Fix

The Finals Crash on Launch Fix: Why Does it Crash to Desktop?

If The Finals is crashing to desktop when you try to launch it, you’re not alone. Many are finding that the game gives them a black screen and then immediately exits. While some are lucky enough to get an error message, others are left wondering why the game is crashing when they start it. Fortunately, one potential fix can completely solve the issue if this problem is happening to you.

How to fix The Finals crashing to desktop on launch

If The Finals is crashing to desktop when you attempt to launch it, the issue likely lies with your CPU. If you’re running an i9-13900K (or potentially another 13th-gen Intel CPU), then the game will continue to crash on launch regardless of any driver updates or restarts. Of course, this is incredibly frustrating, but there’s a quick way to fix it.

The Finals and some other games that use Unreal Engine 5 have some sort of bug that occurs on systems using the Intel i9-13900K. There are a few ways you can go about fixing it, but they all involve slightly downclocking your performance core multiplier from x55 to x54. You can perform this task in BIOS or by using an overclocking utility in Windows. I personally use the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. Still, you should get the same results regardless of your route.

All you need to do to stop the crashing is to change the multiplier on your CPU’s performance cores from x55 to x54. Once you do this, relaunch The Finals. More than likely, it’ll crash again the first time, but once you start it again, the game should load normally.

However, if you’re still having issues with this error after performing the above fix, try the following:

  • Install new GPU driver
  • Restart PC
  • Validate game files
  • Reinstall game
  • Make sure you meet the minimum system specs
