Metal Gear Solid 5’s Launch Trailer Takes a Trip Down Memory Lane

[Update 2] The wait is over! Well… for the launch trailer, not the game. You'll still have to wait until September 1 to get your hands on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, but until then, series creator Hideo Kojima has a very special launch trailer for you to watch over… and over… and over again.

Not only does it end in epic fashion with some awesome, never-before-seen action, but the first whole half of the video is comprised of some of the series' greatest moments, starting all the way back to Metal Gear Solid's debut on the original PlayStation.

Give it a look below. That is, if you haven't already pushed play.

[Update] Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima has revealed when his previously teased trailer for The Phantom Pain will be released, and it's not much longer now!

Konami will release his new trailer, dubbed "Evolution & Harmony," in just 24 hours' time on August 25 at 6am PT, 9am ET. The MGS mastermind himself announced the exciting news in a post on Twitter, saying:

And that's not all, as accompanying his Tweet, Mr. Kojima included a new image, presumably taken from the trailer itself. Give it a look below.

Be sure to check back here tomorrow to see the full trailer.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is slated for release on September 1 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC. Reviews have already begun to surface, and they're looking quite positive so far. Stay tuned to GameRevolution for our full assestment, which will be coming soon.

[Original] Rejoice, Kojima fans! Unlike Konami's gamescom trailer for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, it looks like the next video for the game will actually be directed by the franchise mastermind himself.

In a post on Twitter, series creator and director Hideo Kojima shared a brief message, teasing an upcoming trailer that he is currently editing in the lead-up to the game's September release. "As the launch is approaching I'm editing new trailer w/less spoiler," he said. "'The evolution & harmony of Metal Gear', if I name it in EXPO-ish theme."

The trailer that Konami released for gamescom was clearly not crafted by Mr. Kojima. Not only did it not have his name splattered all over its intro, it also lacked his magic touch and cinematic charm. In case you haven't yet seen it or need a refresher, give it a look below.

We don't know when exactly the new trailer will launch, but you can be sure we'll have it up on the site as soon as it's available. With Kojima's departure from Konami all but confirmed at this point, this may very well be the final trailer of this sort we ever get from the talented game director. While EA exec Peter Moore thinks they'll "kiss and make up," I'm not quite as optimistic.
