Rocket League Surpasses 8 Million Copies Sold and 22 Million Total Players

Rocket League is one of the biggest gaming success stories of our time. Made with a small budget and team, it exploded in popularity when it debuted in Summer 2015. Since then it has remained a popular livestream game, in addition to being one of the most commonly played indie titles. Naturally, it's sold a lot of units.

When speaking about its 2015 hit in a recent video, Psyonix stated that Rocket League has accumulated a total player pool of 22 million players and 8 million copies sold. This makes it one of the best-selling games of the generation.

A portion of its success is owed to the PlayStation Plus deal that Psyonix negotiated with Sony. Although offered for free during a short period of time, it pushed the game deep into mainstream. For several weeks it was the most popular multiplayer game on PS4, a feat previously never achieved by an indie title.

We awarded Rocket League with a 4.5/5 in our review.
