Calvin Johnson Named Madden NFL 13 Cover Athlete

In the middle of Times Square (because why be modest?), Electronic Arts revealed that Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson has upset Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton to become the cover athlete for Madden NFL 13.

Sacking the 1st seed Cam Newton, 6th seed Calvin Johnson has made history as the first wide receiver and the first Detroit Loins player on the Madden cover since a blurry image of Barry Sanders on Madden NFL 2000. Johnson doesn't fazed by the supposed Madden curse:

Knowing that millions of fans took part in the campaign, and to be the one they selected to appear on the cover of the game they play every day is an honor. To make it this far, and to beat out guys like Cam and Aaron Rodgers, a Super Bowl winning quarterback, it’s surreal to say the least. Much love to all the fans who voted for me.

Johnson took a victory 90-minute photo shoot and one picture will be used as the base photo for the cover. Madden NFL 13 will be available for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and PS Vita on August 28, 2012.
