PixelJunk Monsters 2 Announced For PS4, Switch and Steam

Quirky tower-defense game PixelJunk Monsters is getting a well-deserved sequel. The good news? It’s coming really soon. The better news? PixelJunk Monsters 2 is also coming to Nintendo Switch, as Nintendo continues to embrace the indie scene.

As announced by Spike Chunsoft on Twitter, PixelJunk Monsters 2 is the first of a swathe of games the publisher looks to pull back the curtain on today. It’s a mighty fine choice to kick things off too; the original was one of the best pick-up-and-play games of its generation and is currently celebration its tenth (!) anniversary.

Hitting in a little over two months on May 25, PixelJunk Monsters 2 is heading to PS4, Switch and Steam. The localization isn’t just coming to North America too, as Europe are also benefiting from Spike Chunsoft’s big push to get more Japanese games out there.

The game will set you back $14.99 in the US. The price for European regions has yet to be confirmed, but expect something around the £25 mark.

Befitting a sequel, the game has undergone a radical graphical overhaul to make the best use of this generation’s technology. Gone are the simplistic visuals; in its place, a wondrous world populated by what looks like hand-crafted trees, towers and terrors that populate the screen.

Kotaku has confirmed that the game will run at 60 fps on PS4 and 30 fps on the Switch. PixelJunk Monsters 2 will also come with a two-player local co-op mode, as well a four-player online mode.
