News about a new Sonic racing game has been teased by SEGA social media coordinator Aaron Webber. The information came in an episode of Sonic Official, and the news is apparently “On the horizon.” With E3 coming up shortly, are we likely to expect this news as part of the show?
In season 2 episode 10 of the Sonic Official Livecast streamed on May 17, Webber said, “A lot of you have been waiting for news and information, and you’re very curious about what that title was that we teased back at South by Southwest, and at least in the near future, you might be hearing some more news and information about that. So hey, that’s coming up. Get ready. It’s on the horizon.”
ResetEra user Zippo was one of the first to draw attention to this teaser in relation to E3 this week, and we’re privy to hop on the bandwagon of their speculation that we might hear more about the game during the show. They said, “E3 Judges Week was last week so it’s certainly possible members of the press have already played it.”
The last racing game in the Sonic franchise was Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, which puts six years between it and whatever this next game might be. All-Stars Racing received quite positive reviews, so it’s likely fans are quite eager for another fast-paced cart racing (or maybe even hoverboarding again) game. And after last year’s universally-praised 2D Sonic Mania and so-bad-its-good 3D Sonic Forces, it follows suit that the next game in the franchise will go back to one in the racing genre.
It’s likely that we’ll either hear about this new Sonic racing game either in the week before or during E3. Speculation is open as to what kind of racer it’ll be, so we’ll have to sit in eager anticipation to find out exactly what’ll be making Sonic go fast this time.
