Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time leaks on ratings board

First there was a mysterious mask, then there was some new merchandise and a puzzle, and now there is a leak from a ratings board. The Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee has leaked the existence of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. The rating not only contains the name of the title, but the box art, platforms, and developer as well. However, there is no attached release date to this new Crash game.

Gematsu found the listing late on Thursday night. There are only PS4 and Xbox One versions (with a mention of the Xbox Series X on the Xbox One box) and not much information aside from a small setup for the story:

“Crash is relaxing and exploring his island in his time, 1998, when he finds a mysterious mask hidden away in a cave, Lani-Loli. The mask is one of the Quantum Masks and apparently knows Aku-Aku, Crash’s mask friend! With the Quantum Masks returning and a Quantum Rift appearing near our heroes, they decide to bravely head through to different times and dimensions to stop whoever is responsible.”

Given the “1998” and the “4” in the title, it seems as though developer Toys for Bob (the studio behind the Spyro: Reignited Trilogy) is trying to retcon the series and erase all non-Naughty Dog titles. Naughty Dog developed the first three games and left the series after the 1999 kart racer (which Beenox remastered in 2019). The following Crash games were not as critically acclaimed.

And even though there is no release date, the leaked box along with the rating seems to imply that it is coming out sometime within the calendar year. While there is no mention of the PS5, the Xbox box are does mention the Xbox Series X, meaning it will likely have Smart Delivery. And the mention of the Seriex X hints at a PS5 port as well. It’s all still a little unclear at the moment since Activision has not officially announced the game yet. However, given the leaks, that’s likely to happen soon.
