PS5 pre-orders open tomorrow… for some retailers

If you watched the PS5 Showcase stream hoping to hear more about PS5 pre-orders, then you were likely a little disappointed. However, according to Sony, people will be able to pre-purchase the PS5 tomorrow, September 17. But there is a catch: It’s only going to be at some retailers.

While Sony did give the news first, host Geoff Keighley was actually the first people to break the story. Sony then quickly followed up with an official confirmation as if it didn’t just hold an official stream.

Although, as you’ll notice, it says “select retailers” without any indication of what those retailers will be. It is also not clear if or how this is tied to the pre-registrations the console maker held a few weeks ago. It required that players input their PSN ID, which implies that this might be a special pre-order process if those IDs will play any role at all. We may have to wait until tomorrow to find out who gets one and how the process goes down. Keighley also noted that some retailers might even go live with their pre-orders tonight so be on the lookout for what store pulls the trigger first.
