Dead By Daylight SBMM

Dead By Daylight reintroduces skill-based matchmaking and fans hate it

The Dead By Daylight SBMM system, or to give it its full title of skill-based matchmaking, has been brought back for another round of testing before it’s introduced into the horror game proper, and the game’s fans really seem to hate it. Dead By Daylight matchmaking has always been a little iffy, but now players are complaining that the new DBD SBMM system has completely messed up the game.

Why do fans hate the Dead By Daylight SBMM system?

Dead By Daylight SBMM

The new SBMM system in Dead By Daylight is now live on the game’s servers and fans really feel the system isn’t working right, with complaints ranging from players who do well in one match suddenly getting placed in a high-ranking match, to objections to the whole idea of skill-based matchmaking in the game — especially as Dead By Daylight already has balance issues and problems with its matchmaking system in general.

The good news for those fans is that the SBMM system may be live but is only up for testing purposes right now, and developer Behaviour Interactive says it’ll only be in the game until this Monday, August 16. The main idea behind SBMM is the removal of Dead By Daylight’s ranks and placing people in matches based on a hidden skill level that the game decides. The system is still being tried out so it’s natural it has a lot of problems that will hopefully be resolved, although detractors are worried since Behaviour says that the system will go “live permanently someday.”

The most recent big addition to Dead By Daylight was the Resident Evil crossover DLC and subsequent updates, although these brought with them further problems. Of course, it’s not the only horror-based co-op game around — Aliens: Fireteam Elite is out this month and will get at least a year’s worth of post-launch DLC support, and the Back 4 Blood beta has proven a big success.
