Fortnite fans are demanding a collab after a modder showed them what it would look like if Pokémons joined the game as Sidekicks. The video featured a tiny Cyndaquil following a player around. It made many Fortnite fans imagine a full collaboration between Epic Games and Nintendo.
Fans demand Fortnite x Pokémon collab following viral sidekick mod
The clip was posted by X (formerly Twitter) user boredcrow24 and shows Cyndaquil trailing behind a player. It is even making a familiar cry. Fortnite fans flooded the replies with requests for other Pokémon. Many said they would be happy to pay for the cosmetics.
The user captioned the post, writing, “Cyndaquil, I choose you!” Check out the post below:
The modder also replied to questions about how the animation was made. They say the walking motion was taken from PokePark, a Wii spin-off. “The walking animation was taken directly from PokePark,” the creator wrote in replies. That detail helped explain why the little Pokémon looked so natural beside the player.
Fortnite already supports Sidekicks, who are small, purely cosmetic companions that follow players around the island. Epic has used the system for crossovers that wouldn’t fit normal character models. They have worked with characters like SpongeBob SquarePants and characters from The Simpsons.
Seeing Cyndaquil in the Fortnite clip made it easy for fans to picture a collab with Totodile, Eevee, or other favorites appearing as purchasable Sidekicks. A fan wrote, “deadass id break my no buying sidekicks rule if they ever did a cyndaquil sidekick.” Another said, “Eevee would genuinely be such a cool collab sidekick when combined with the way buying sidekicks works. You complete specific quests to unlock a different evolution path and then evolve it, with said evolution being permanent.”
There is no sign that Nintendo or Epic is planning an official Pokémon crossover. Nintendo tends to be careful about letting its characters appear on other platforms, and any deal would require the agreement of both companies.
