Ghost Recon Wildlands Is Quietly Becoming a Must-Buy Of 2017

As we've already discussed, 2017 looks to be a great year for gaming with so many enticing titles set to hit the shelves, not to mention, of course, two brand new consoles and all the games that go along with them. From the Nintendo Switch to Red Dead Redmeption 2, we have a lot to look forward to.

One game that hasn't made many headlines is the tactical stealth co-op shooter Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands. But, the more I see from it, the more I'm convinced that Wildlands is equipped with the tools necessary to shock us all upon release. It's drumming up hype in such a way that we don't hear it.

Just released today is yet another extended gameplay video, this time in singleplayer. Now, I say "yet another," but it's been more than three months since the last such video. Ubisoft has released a few scatted 2- and 3-minute informative videos with light gameplay, but they're rolling these out slowly and with purpose.

Contrast this with how every other game drums up hype. Let's look more recently with Injustice 2, a cinematic trailer. What sets Ghost Recon Wildlands apart from the pack is that Ubisoft is showing you the game in a mostly undiluted form. They aren't making it fancy or unrepresentative. These trailers are giving you the actual experience of playing the game, and that's something we should all desire from a pre-release video game trailer.

Even if you watch the videos and decide you don't like the way the game plays out, how many other games can you say that about having only viewed their pre-release promotional materials? Ubisoft is making the right, consumer-friendly moves when promoting Wildlands, but it also appears they're making a good product while they're at it.

Usually, these tactical multiplayer games have trouble if you can't find three friends to play with, and, at least from what we can tell, Ghost Recon Wildlands won't be a nightmare in single player mode. Combine that with the game's over-all polish and its freedom of choice, in terms of play style, and I'm willing to bet Wildlands flies under the radar when it releases on March 7. But those who pick it up seem to be in for a real treat.
