The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog

The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog Is Not an April Fools’ Joke

No, it’s not an early April Fools’ joke. In a surprise release, The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog is now available to download for free on Steam. Sega has apparently heard all of the fans saying that Sonic is dead, and now he actually is. Are you proud of yourselves now?

Sega calls this “a bold new direction for the future of Sonic”

The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog is a visual novel where Amy Rose hosts a murder mystery party on the Mirage Express train. As the new hire on the train, ut’s your job to interrogate Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, and the rest of the Sonic gang to find out who killed the Blue Blur.

The game features fully hand-drawn landscapes and characters too. I mean, just check out all their cool train outfits! It also has a neat mini-game that has Sonic collect rings in an auto-runner with three lanes.

While the Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog may not be canon (unless you want it to be), the project is a labor of love for the Sonic Social team, as described in the launch trailer’s description. With all the serious games out there nowadays about apocalypses and the darkness of souls, it’s nice to know that every once in a while we can get a tongue-in-cheek game like this that is a gift (quite literally) to the gaming community.

In other news, the Sonic Frontiers roadmap is well on its way with the first free update adding Photo Mode and Jukebox.
