The Rainbow Six Siege MouseTrap release date is supposed to be April 2023, according to Ubisoft at least. But this keyboard and mouse anti-cheat on consoles, which is meant to make sure players are on an even playing field using gamepad controllers for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, seems to be impacting players sooner than later.
To prevent cheating, MouseTrap is an upcoming tool that will sniff out “input spoofing devices,” which effectively means detecting keyboard and mouse peripherals, like the Xim Apex, on consoles. If this new system catches you, it will artificially increase your input lag to a degree that the game becomes largely unplayable.
Is Rainbow Six Siege Mousetrap active on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles?
Several Rainbow Six Siege players like thecoreross on Twitter (as posted above) as well as members on the Xim Apex community forums report that MouseTrap is already live. This could be accidental or some kind of bug, and the MouseTrap activation may have already been turned off. But either way, this signals that keyboard and mouse users should be prepared for a lot of resistance from Ubisoft.
In response, Xim has already introduced Privacy Game Settings as a new feature that might prevent Mousetrap from detecting their peripherals, and the first game this will support is Rainbow Six Siege. So it looks like there will be a showdown between Ubisoft and other tech companies that believe players should be able to use whatever input devices they wish.
