Starfield New Game Plus Differences Variations Alternate Starts List

Starfield New Game Plus Differences: List of NG+ Variations, Changes, Lodge Cutscenes

There are numerous Starfield new game plus differences and variations that have been found by players so far. The main difference in NG+ is of course the ability to skip the main quest altogether and that you will earn the Starborn Guardian ship and legendary Spacesuit right at beginning of a playthrough. But beyond that, there are some random events that will only trigger in future playthroughs, particularly special cutscenes at the Lodge. As you might suspect, there will be plenty of spoilers here. That said, here’s a list of changes that you might be able to find in new game plus.

List of Starfield new game plus differences and variations

The following are several differences and variations that you can find in new game plus:

  • Different Versions of You – In one variation, when you enter the Lodge for the first time in a playthrough, all of the members of Constellation are replaced by different versions of you. Namely, they represent different version of you from different factions, like a UC Colonies you and Freestar Collective you. It may not be possible to bring them on as companions, though.
  • Sarah on Floor – In this variation, you will find Sarah Morgan lying on the floor injured. You may try to aid her, but she accuses you for killing everyone in Constellation. A different version of yourself, due to apparent greed in collecting all of the Artifacts, decided to murder your friends. And you end up having to fight against the alternate version of yourself at The Lodge who has comparable stats to yours.
  • Hunter Appears – When opening the door to the Lodge this time, the Hunter will come out of Void Form and greet you. He is apparently responsible for making all of the members of Constellation disappear, making the playthrough more or less a solo run.
  • Adult Cora Coe – In this version, you will find all of the Constellation members seemingly replaced by Spacer punk mercenaries, and Sarah Morgan replaced by an adult version of Cora Coe who seeks revenge on you. Or at least the version of you that killed Sam Coe or let him die in a prior universe. You can plead your case if you never actually hurt Sam before, but it can otherwise lead to a battle.
  • Walter Shroud Leads – Instead of meeting Sarah Morgan, she will be replaced by Walter Shroud who has purchased Constellation and hired Ecliptic mercenaries. He will ask to negotiate with you on claiming the Artifacts and star charts that Constellation has. You can pay 100,000 credits for them or attack him if you wish to get them.
  • Andreja as House Va’ruun Cultist – This variation has Andreja reveal her association with House Va’ruun cultists where she brings down Constellation by will of The Great Serpent. This will start a battle where you must fight her and her flunkies.
  • Constellation as Children – Several children will try cosplaying as the other members of Constellation like a clubhouse. They hand you all of the Artifacts without asking questions.
  • Sarah Morgan as “plant” – You start talking to a plant that seems like Sarah Morgan, but luckily you speak with Noel instead to clear things up. You’ll still receive all of the Artifacts from her safely.
  • You as Companion – In this timeline, you encounter yourself right as you give the Artifact from the Argos mine to Constellation at the beginning of the game. This ultimately allows you to talk to your past self and have them be a companion in this playthrough.
  • The Trader – In this random encounter after jumping to a system space, you can meet The Trader, another Starborn who is interested in trading high-end weapons and items instead of trying to claim all of the Artifacts. It will be difficult finding this NPC again, so we recommend buying what you can.
More Starfield

It’s unclear if you need to do something in particular to trigger these alternate starts for Starfield, but there is a trick that you can do if you want to experience one. Before you head to the Unity, save the game. Then head into new game plus and if you don’t get a different event at The Lodge, you can reload that save until you do.

We’ll update this list as we find more variations of new game plus. We expect that Starfield DLC might add additional alternate starts to NG+ in the future.

Starfield New Game Plus Variations FAQ

Q: What sets apart the new game plus mode in Starfield from the initial playthrough?

A: In Starfield’s new game plus (NG+), you can opt to skip the main quest and will immediately receive the Starborn Guardian ship and legendary Spacesuit at the beginning. There are also unique random events and special cutscenes at the Lodge exclusive to NG+.

Q: How does the encounter with different versions of the player’s character at the Lodge play out in NG+?

A: When you enter the Lodge in NG+, in one variation, all of the members of Constellation are replaced by different versions of you from various factions, like a UC Colonies version and a Freestar Collective version. Although intriguing, you might not be able to recruit these versions as companions.

Q: Is there a strategy to trigger a specific NG+ variation or experience a desired event at The Lodge?

A: While it’s not entirely clear how to prompt a particular alternate start, a trick you can try is saving your game before heading to the Unity. When you begin your NG+ and visit The Lodge, if the event doesn’t match what you were hoping for, you can reload your saved game until you get the desired variation.
