PS4 Dev Kit Specs Leak, Details Internal Tech, Controller, And More

With new hardware undoubtedly right around the corner, the hype for Sony's next gaming machine is reaching an all-time high. Thankfully, we've got a hefty helping of info on this new piece of hardware thanks to some leaked dev kit specs that made their way to Kotaku.

According to the outlet, more than 90 PDF documents have been leaked, detailing Sony's next-gen dev kit. It comes packed with:

  • System Memory: 8GB
  • Video Memory: 2.2 GB
  • CPU: 4x Dual-Core AMD64 "Bulldozer" (so, 8x cores)
  • GPU: AMD R10xx
  • Ports: 4x USB 3.0, 2x Ethernet
  • Drive: Blu-Ray
  • HDD: 160GB
  • Audio Output: HDMI & Optical, 2.0, 5.1 & 7.1 channels

The leak is credited to SuperDae, the same fellow responsible for leaking the Durango dev kits last year. While the current kit supports the Sixaxis and DualShock 3 controllers, there's a new controller in the works as well. Kotaku explains that "Orbis' controller features a capacitive touch pad, like you find on the back of a Vita (presumably it's also on the back of the PS4's controller), that can recognise two-point multi-touch. The entire pad can also be 'clicked' for an additional input button."

If that wasn't enough, the leak also reveals that the console will allow multiple users to be signed in at any given time. Want to play split-screen co-op with your buddy and earn trophies at the same time? Now you can!

Keep in mind that this leaked information is in regard to a development kit, not the final version that will be sold to consumers. As such, we'll have to wait until Sony officially reveals the PlayStation 4 before we can say anything is for certain.
