Alan Wake and For Honor free on Epic Games Store next week

Alan Wake and For Honor free on Epic Games Store next week

Alan Wake and For Honor are next week’s Epic Games Store free games. Both titles will become free on the store beginning on August 2 and ending on August 9. This will be the second week Epic has released two titles for free on the storefront, following this week’s free Epic Games Store games, Moonlighter and This War of Mine.

The simultaneous release of Alan Wake, a T-rated game, and For Honor, and M-rated game, as Epic Games Store free games appears to be a continuation of a policy Epic announced earlier this month. According to Epic, whenever an M-rated game is chosen for a free release, a non-M game will be supplied for free alongside it (hence this week’s Moonlighter, E 10+, and This War of Mine, M). Epic previously only released one game per free period, and it only held free periods every two weeks until this May. After the Epic Mega Sale that month, the company decided to move to a weekly schedule for the rest of 2019.

Ubisoft’s 2017 multiplayer medieval battle game For Honor earned praise upon release for its engaging, methodical combat — though we recommend using a controller if you’re playing on PC. The game has seen tons of updates and crossover events since launch, including a day where players got to fight Ubisoft’s infamous Rabbids. Ubisoft recently announced For Honor Year 3 Season 3, which will bring a new Viking hero and a new map to the game in August, just in time for Epic Games Store downloaders.

Alan Wake is the 2012 psychological thriller from Control developer Remedy. Remedy recently acquired Alan Wake publishing rights from Microsoft, which could enable the developer to begin re-releasing the game on new platforms and possibly even develop a sequel. A free giveaway certainly is yet another way for Remedy to keep Alan Wake‘s name alive in the gaming realm if that sequel is indeed in the works.

We reported earlier today that Epic has begun rolling out Epic Games Store cloud saves to select games on the platform, including Moonlighter. Epic has not confirmed whether or not Alan Wake or For Honor will have cloud saves, but there’s a good chance they could, given the fact that this week’s free game was one of the first to receive the feature.
