Assassins Creed Liberation HD Steam Access

Ubisoft Backtracks Over Removing Games Like Assassin’s Creed Liberation on Steam

At the start of the month, Ubisoft announced they were closing the online servers and removing access to DLC for several of their older titles. Over the weekend a notice appeared on Steam that seemed to suggest that players wouldn’t have access to titles like Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD at all once the servers closed, but Ubisoft has now clarified that those who already own these games “will still be able to access, play or redownload” them.

Ubisoft will not remove Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD from Steam

Over the weekend, Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD was removed from sale on Steam. At the same time, a notice appeared on the game’s Steam Store page that said “this title will not be accessible following September 1st, 2022” as noticed by Twitter user Nors3.eth. This implied that players would not be able to access and play a game they had already purchased. The good news is Ubisoft has clarified to IGN that this isn’t the case.

“As stated in our support article, only DLCs and online features will be affected by the upcoming decommissioning. Current owners of those games will still be able to access, play or redownload them. Our teams are working with our partners to update this information across all storefronts and are also assessing all available options for players who will be impacted when these games’ online services are decommissioned on September 1st, 2022. It has always been our intention to do everything in our power to allow those legacy titles to remain available in the best possible conditions for players, and this is what we are working towards.”

Ubisoft announced they were closing the online servers for 14 older games like Assassin’s Creed Revelations and Far Cry 3. Their original support article did state that Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD would lose access to online features and DLC, and it seems like Steam got the wrong end of the stick. The Steam game page has now been updated to read “DLC for this product and online elements and features will become unavailable, as of Sept 1st, 2022. The base game will continue to be playable”. The game is also back on sale.

In other gaming news, Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series fans have launched a campaign to persuade Bandai Namco to fund a sequel. Elsewhere, Pokemon Puzzle League will be coming to Nintendo Switch Online this week but not in Japan.
