Youtuber JerryRigEverything performed a series of durability tests on the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Unfortunately, the model could not survive the tests and eventually exploded. He regarded the brand’s new model as the weakest smartphone he had tested.
Google’s new Pixel 10 Pro catches fire in durability test
JerryRigEverything performed numerous tests on Google’s new Pixel model, including bend-resistance and scratch-and-dust-exposure tests. He began by expressing his shock at the weak antenna lines, which were in the same place as the Pixel Fold for the third time. He recalled the previous models that broke at the same antenna lines.
Further testing the scratches, he explains, “We’ll have to take a closer look during the teardown, but either way, it has a soft layer of scratchable plastic over both the under-screen sensor and the 10-megapixel hole-punch selfie camera.”
Further, in the video, he put the dustproof claims to the test but seemed disappointed. He said, “The eight has to do with liquid, but the six part of the rating means that the phone is essentially dustproof, since the number six is as high as the rating scale gets when it comes to dust. And yeah, the screen is probably dustproof. But unfortunately for Google, I can conclusively say that the Pixel 10 Pro Fold hinge is definitely not dustproof. The crunching of the dust that is now inside the hinge sounds pretty disturbing.”
Additionally, he criticized the company for placing the antenna lines in a weak location, as in previous models, and for deeming the phone extremely durable. The creator mentioned that, though Google claimed the phone can withstand 10 years’ worth of folding, they didn’t guarantee the number of folds.
In the middle of the test, the phone also short-circuited, leaving it smoky and damaged. This happened as its internal battery was affected, causing the explosion. Given the model failed most of its claims, JerryRigEverything said, “This is by far the weakest folding smartphone I’ve ever tested.”
