Ding! What Fallout 4’s Trophy List Tells Us About The Game

Courtesy of website Exophase, we now have a list of all 51 Trophies (and we would expect this would translate to being the Xbox Achievements and Steam Achievements list as well) for Bethesda's upcoming Fallout 4. There are a few potential spoilers here, so I must heed that warning before you read. But let's examine each Trophy and see what, if anything, they might reveal about the game before it releases on November 10. (Is your body ready?)

 


Three Factions: Minuteman, The Brotherhood of Steel, Railroad

The first is confirmation of several factions in the game that we already suspected given footage that we've seen as well as deduction from the plight of the androids in the Commonwealth, where Fallout 4 takes place, from a quest in Fallout 3 called The Replicated Man. But more on this later.

Joining the Minutemen faction is the least surprising of the bunch, as Preston Garvey has already been since protecting the Museum of Freedom from raiders and ghouls in the lengthy gameplay footage shown at Bethesda's E3 press conference. The same goes for the Brotherhood of Steel, though the videos revealed thus far have pitted The Sole Survivor against The Brotherhood of Steel initiates. But given that they're a faction in Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, this comes as no surprise. Perhaps the Blind Betrayal Trophy hints to the fact that the Brotherhood of Steel has been betrayed on the inside and that the Sole Survivor must fight against the traitors (or for the traitors).

However, the lack of a Trophy to join the Enclave is extremely interesting, since you can call a Vertibird down using a flare and Vertibirds are generally an Enclave airship. The Commonwealth chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel does have access to Vertibird technology, though, so this wouldn't be too out of the ordinary.

More revealing is a trophy for joining the Railroad, named after the Underground Railroad, a clandestine group of android sympathizers whose mission is to help sentient androids flee from the grasp of the Institute. In the Fallout 3 quest "The Replicated Man", an android named Harkness has facial reconstruction and his memories wiped, with assistance by The Railroad, to disguise himself from Dr. Zimmer, the creator of the android from the Institute. This confirms that the android struggle will indeed be a major part of the story, and the Underground Undercover quest will likely carry this story thread through to its conclusion.

Settlements

Two trophies refer to settlements with Community Organizer being awarded for allying with three settlements and Benevolent Leader being awarded for reaching maximum happiness in a large settlement. This shows that there are at least three settlements in the Commonwealth Wasteland and that happiness matters, likely not far from making sure that your dwellers are happy in Fallout Shelter.

You will likely need to make sure that any citizens who live in your settlements are satisfied by gathering resources and crafting solid defenses against raiders. It's also important to note that you "ally" with settlements so they seem as though that they already exist and that you don't have to create settlements from scratch.

Story Quests and Faction Quests

Beyond the Trophy for reaching the Wasteland, there are eighteen Trophies for completing quests, which are either side quests or main story quests. If I were to make an educated guess as to the particular order of the Trophies, I believe there is a reason that the following ten quests are in a row and that these will comprise the main story: When Freedom Calls, Unlikely Valentine, Reunions (does this confirm that you're meeting with your child or spouse?), Dangerous Minds, Hunter/Hunted, The Molecular Level, The Nuclear Option, Institutionalized, Mankind-Redefined, Powering Up, and Nuclear Family. The final decision in the story governed by the final Trophy, "Prepared for the Future", will indeed decide the Fate of the Commonwealth.

The other quests seem to be faction-based or other major side quests: Taking Independence and Old Guns (Minutemen), Blind Betrayal and Ad Victoriam (Brotherhood of Steel), and Underground Undercover, Rockets' Red Glare, and Sanctuary (Railroad). It's uncertain whether these count toward the trophy for completing 10 side quests, but this could mean that there are 10 side quests beyond even these faction quests. That's a solid amount of content.

Other Notes/Observations

– Miscellaneous objectives have been confirmed, likely borrowed from Fallout: New Vegas. The more perks, the merrier.

– Some creatures are now classified as "Giant". I'm not sure if Deathclaws are considered "giant" size, but this opens the floodgate for creatures that are even deadlier than Deathclaws (or at least much larger). I mean, check that Mirelurk Queen above!

– Baseball and football seem to be confirmed as mini-games through the "Homerun!" Trophy and the "Touchdown!" Trophy. Now, we're not sure if this are actually full-fledged mini-games with actual players or if it's just some kind of training mini-game where you must catch a football or hit a baseball. It would be a bit disappointing if this is just in-game virtual reality sequences or mini-games on the Pipboy… Let's not waste Fenway Park/Diamond City, please.

– There are at least 20 Vault-Tec Bobbleheads in the game. That's sort of a surprise given that skills are no longer in the game and there are only 7 SPECIAL stats. This might mean that these extra bobbleheads will award free perks or perhaps permanent bonuses.

– You can reach a maximum relationship level with a companion. That's not too surprising since Todd Howard said as much, but what's interesting is that you will be able to see the level of companionship much more clearly. In Fallout: New Vegas, the relationship stat was done by behind the scenes so it was difficult to track.

– Last but not least, the "Ranger Corps" Trophy is awarded for discovering 100 locations. Because of how it's named, this may lead to a hint that the Rangers from Fallout 3 are once again a part of the game. If so, they might be a very handy source of caps just for exploring the Bostonian wasteland.

– Killing 300 humans will give you the "Masshole" Trophy. That's too full of win!
