FlexiSpot EG1 Standing Desk Review: ‘Built to last’

FLEXISPOT EG1 STANDING DESK REVIEW.

FlexiSpot has been “powering” work here at GameRevolution for years now, with two editors using (and loving) their standing desks. My main desk uses a model from 2018 and it’s still going strong after almost three years, even with a hectic and dramatic house move. FlexiSpot has earned my trust and so I was very eager to take a look at the company’s new product, the EG1 Standing Desk.

That bamboo vibe

FlexiSpot’s EG1 Standing Desk with the light wood top and white legs are a contrasting aesthetic to the all-black desk I’ve been using and, I must say, it looks great. It’s very clean and on-trend during a time when office spaces are becoming brighter and more minimalist. FlexiSpot is offering a cosmetic choice that I think a lot of people will like, especially those new to working from home that are looking to create an efficient, yet cheerfully bright, space for themselves.

The legs use a new oval design, which looks a lot more appealing than the older squared-off version. It’s subtle but fits well with the brighter, more minimalist look.

Looking great is one thing, but how does it function? This version uses a dual-motor lifting system, which offers improved stability under heavy loads and at maximum height. I’m a big fan of this, as I use the desk at the maximum height due to being 6′ 7″. Despite being very high up, the desktop remains impressively sturdy. For longer-term use, however, I would advise tightening the bolts every year or so. The movement and vibration of the desk naturally cause them to loosen over time, as with the other motorized standing desks I’ve used.

Ever higher

In terms of minimum and maximum heights, this desk can sit at between 23.6″ and 49.2″. There are four memory presets, which is great for having a sit and stand mode between two different users. Movement between the different heights is quick and silent, making it easy to adjust without disturbing those nearby. This is ideal for home office use, where you might be working late into the night or earlier in the morning.

As it’s moving between presets, this desk has anti-collision detection. This stops the desk from adjusting any further when it detects resistance. This is great, as these motors are powerful and have some serious crushing potential. The anti-collision detection has saved my desk chair more than once, with it detecting the armrests and stopping.

A child lock is also found on this model, to help prevent pesky kids (or pets) from making adjustments to the desk. It works well and I’m sure many working-from-home parents will be grateful for this!

One of the biggest challenges with setting up a FlexiSpot standing desk isn’t the installation — which is super simple as demonstrated in the video above — it’s actually the cable management. It’s important to cater for both standing and sitting positions, meaning users have to make sure there is enough slack in the wires. Failure to carefully manage cables can result in components being pulled off the desk, which is something we definitely want to avoid! FlexiSpot’s cable management tray is a good first step to keeping wires tidy, as it perfectly conceals the desk’s power supply.

FlexiSpot EG1 Standing Desk Review: The final verdict

With the EG1 Standing Desk, FlexiSpot is implementing a great-looking natural wood that has a lacquer coating to help resist scratches, water, and insects. This boost in longevity from a company that has already proven to provide long-lasting quality is great to see.

At the time of writing, the FlexiSpot EG1 Standing Desk comes in at $539.99. It’s a step up in both price and quality from the E6 I previously reviewed, but it does feel even sturdier and higher quality. For those hunting for a standing desk that fits in well with a brighter home office setup, the EG1 is well worth considering.
