Valheim microtransactions

Valheim Microtransactions | Are there in-app purchases?

Valheim is probably the hottest thing in gaming right now, but a premium title with MTX can put players off. While the Norse survival game is overwhelmingly popular, many users won’t jump in until they know it’s not a pay-to-win game. So, are there Valheim microtransactions? Here’s the lowdown on in-app purchases.

Does Valheim have microtransactions?

Recurrent spending opportunities are mostly fine in free-to-play games, though Valheim is a paid product. As such, it’s understandable that some players like to do their research before buying the hottest new release. It might mean missing out, but it’s all about the principle.

Valheim does not feature microtransactions. There are no in-game spending opportunities; DLC, loot boxes, and season/battle passes are not available to purchase.

At the time of writing, Valheim is only available on Windows and Linux PCs via Steam Early Access. It’s possible that the final version of Valheim will include MTX, though developer Iron Gate hasn’t confirmed anything on that front. It seems unlikely, however, as the dev team has a community focus and likely wouldn’t want to upset the apple cart.

Valheim microtransactions would also have a hard time justifying their existence. If they were to grant the likes of better gear, character upgrades, and crafting materials it’d be a waste of money as these things are freely available via console commands.

Perhaps more likely would be downloadable content with all-new features, for instance, new biomes. Biomes can make a big impact on gameplay, like the cold mechanic in the existing Mountains biome. Just FYI, there are some extensive tips and tricks on surviving the cold right here.

As of right now, the Valheim content roadmap only details free updates on the horizon. The game looks like it’ll remain free from microtransactions for the foreseeable future, if not indefinitely.
