If you’ve been playing some Doom Eternal online multiplayer, but want to know if you can play with friends across different platforms, you probably want to know the answer to “is there Doom Eternal cross-play multiplayer?” Wonder no more. In this guide, we’ll let you in on whether there is Doom Eternal cross-platform online multiplayer or not. Read on to discover if there is any kind of cross-play options in the game.
Is There Doom Eternal Cross-Play Multiplayer? | Is it cross-platform?
Unfortunately, there is no Doom Eternal cross-play online multiplayer. Doom Eternal doesn’t support cross-platform play as of writing. This doesn’t mean, however, that the game will never have cross-platform online multiplayer. We could get cross-play in Doom Eternal at some point in the future. It all depends on what Sony, Microsoft, Valve, and Nintendo say on the matter, it seems.
Speaking to IGN back in June 2019, the game’s executive producer (Marty Stratton) explained that the developers didn’t do “anything technically that would prevent” cross-platform play. Stratton added, too, that the developers “want to connect players in as many ways as possible,” but that there’s “a lot of publishing and first-party type of stuff” that needs to be sorted out before cross-play can happen.
This means that cross-platform play can come to Doom Eternal, but it’s not up to the developers. At some stage in the future, it could happen, but for now, you’ll have to stick with playing against others on the same platform as you. The multiplayer offering in Doom Eternal is interesting without cross-play, too. Its primary online mode is Battlemode. This is a 2-vs-1 mode, where two players control Demons, trying to defeat the one Doomslayer. Invasion, meanwhile, allows you to invade another player’s singleplayer campaign.
