Diablo 4 Malignant Hearts After Season 1

Diablo 4 Malignant Hearts: What Happens to Hearts and Infested Sockets After Season 1?

Diablo 4 Malignant Hearts will be the main highlight of Season 1, but players want to know what happens to them once the season is over in about three months. Additionally, they want to know what happens to the Infested Sockets, otherwise known as Malignant Sockets, in equipment that these Malignant Hearts fit into. Fans are wondering how much of their progress from Season 1 will be carried over and transferred to the Eternal Realm. Here’s what will happen to Malignant Hearts once Season of the Malignant is over in Diablo 4.

What happens to Diablo 4 Malignant Hearts after Season 1?

Unfortunately, all Malignant Hearts gathered in Season 1 will disappear when the season is over.

This includes all of the Hearts socketed into equipment as well as those stored in the inventory tab and the stash. All the other items you collect with your seasonal character will carry over to the Eternal Realm.

What happens to Diablo 4 Infested Sockets after Season 1?

Any equipment that has Infested Sockets will become equipment with normal sockets at the end of Season 1.

This means that you’ll need to replace any Malignant Hearts in Infested Sockets with the standard array of gems. It’s unclear at this time if equipment drops during the season will have more sockets or if you can embed regular gems into Infested Sockets too.

Also, given that there are four Malignant Heart types — Vicious Heart, Brutal Heart, Devious Heart, and Wrathful Heart — it looks as though you’ll need to find equipment that has the right type Infested Sockets to match the Hearts you want to socket. From various screenshots of these Malignant Hearts posted on Reddit in this thread and another thread, it seems like some of these hearts can be slotted into any Infested Socket while others require a specific type of socket.

Since these Malignant Hearts will go away once Season 1 is over, we recommend looking at them as temporary boons and to be ready to create a build that doesn’t involve them once the seasonal character becomes a standard one.
