Gaming veterans will remember the Neo Geo video game console, which came with arcade-style controllers. SNK originally launched the console in 1990, which was almost three decades ago. To celebrate its 40th anniversary, the Japanese company has announced the Neo Geo Mini.
The SNK Corporation revealed the news via a Facebook post earlier today. It probably wants to re-introduce those classic games to a new generation of gamers, as well as cater to those who simply wish to relive their nostalgic childhood memories. It will arrive fully equipped with 40 iconic games hailing from the original Neo Geo system.
SNK Neo Geo Mini: Features
The Neo Geo Mini will feature a 3.5-inch display, which means that players will not require a TV or monitor to play games on the console. However, it comes with an HDMI terminal, allowing TV or monitor input for those who wish to do so. In that respect, it’s like the Nintendo Switch, providing different ways to play its games. Additional connection terminals include a headphone jack and two controller ports.
SNK Neo Geo Mini: Specifications
SNK provides the exact dimensions of the console as 135mm (width) x D108mm (depth) x H162mm (height), which is small enough to fit in the palm of anyone’s hand. It only weighs 600g and it actually looks like Ant-Man shrunk a tiny arcade cabinet. There will be two different designs for Japanese and international regions. Japanese gamers will receive the Neo Geo Mini with a black, white and red color scheme meant to evoke the design of the original 1990 Neo Geo. International gamers will get a Neo Geo Mini clad in black, white and blue.
SNK Neo Geo Mini: What Are The 40 Games?
No specific games have been confirmed by SNK but we can definitely see several likely candidates in the screenshots for the Neo Geo Mini. These include Metal Slug, Metal Slug 2, Samurai Shodown II, Samurai Shodown V Special, King of Fighters ’97, King of Fighters ’98, Real Bout Fatal Fury, and Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers.
