Rockstar co-founder and GTA producer Dan Houser founds new game studio

Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser has seemingly established a new game development studio, with a new company titled Absurd Ventures in Games having been registered in the UK. Houser, who resigned from Rockstar in 2020, was the lead on multiple games for the Scottish studio including Red Dead Redemption, Bully, and Max Payne 3, along with writing and producing many GTA titles.

What is Rockstar’s Dan Houser’s new studio?

Dan Houser’s registration for the company was spotted over on GTAForums, with the UK government filing for Absurd Ventures in Games being made under Houser’s name. Its nature of business is listed as “ready-made interactive leisure and entertainment software development,” further suggesting its position as a new games company.

Further details about the company have yet to surface, though its odd name already suggests that it will be a departure from Houser’s output at Rockstar. The studio has almost solely produced huge blockbusters such as the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series, with recent rumors emerging regarding the highly anticipated GTA 6 suggesting it will be the biggest entry in the franchise to date.

What is Dan Houser’s next game?

As Absurd Ventures in Games has only recently been registered, it will likely be a while before new information surfaces regarding Houser’s next project. It’s also unconfirmed if the studio will be a traditional game development team a la Rockstar, or if it will be focused on some other kind of gaming-focused software development.

In other news, Sony revealed that the Dutch team of Nixxes will be joining PlayStation Studios as the company’s latest purchase. Xbox and Nike also recently unveiled an unlikely collaboration with Space Jam, for a brand new custom Xbox controller.
