Multiplayer PS4 games that should release on PC

Sony Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden indicated in a recent interview that Sony may be looking into launching some multiplayer PS4 games on PC in the near future. The move makes sense given the PC market’s growth in recent years and competitor Xbox Game Studios’ increasing presence on the platform. The following are a few successful and unreleased PS4 titles that are practically guaranteed to attract a lot of attention on PC for their robust suite of multiplayer options.

Multiplayer PS4 Games on PC | Death Stranding

It’s unclear whether or not Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding is currently being planned for PC, as the game was displayed as a PS4 exclusive at this year’s Gamescom despite Sony delisting it from its exclusive catalog a few weeks ago. Though the title is still mostly shrouded in mystery, we do know that it will feature asynchronous online gameplay and allow players to assist one another “without ever crossing paths.” Gifting supplies, sharing safe houses, and walking in the footsteps of other fans appear to be an integral part of the experience.

Death Stranding seems like it was made with a large community in mind, so releasing it on a platform besides the PS4 is a no-brainer. Cross-play with PC players would feed into the title’s theme of connection, after all. Also, who wouldn’t want to see Norman Reedus in a 2B costume via some fancy modding?

Multiplayer PS4 Games on PC | Dreams

Multiplayer PS4 games

Media Molecule’s Dreams is an incredibly ambitious project with limited reach on PS4. The digital creation system seems more suited for a mouse and keyboard than a DualShock 4 or Move controller, which is precisely why it deserves a PC port. There’s no telling what creators will be able to come up with, as the software allows anyone to build full-fledged single-player and multiplayer games with a variety of simple tools.

So far, console creatives have managed to craft the first level of Metal Gear Solid, a P.T. remake, and an interactive version of Vincent van Gogh’s “Starry Night.” If given the opportunity to mess around with Dreams on his or her preferred platform with a more intuitive control scheme, an experienced modder could produce projects that are just as impressive, if not more. Of course, a shared ecosystem between the two platforms would help ensure that no one misses out on the fun.

Multiplayer PS4 Games on PC | The Last of Us Part 2

The Last of Us release date, Multiplayer PS4 games

While there’s a great chance that a PC port of The Last of Us Part 2 will perform well in sales due to sheer hype alone (the previous entry in the franchise is widely considered to be one of the best games of all time), Sony and Naughty Dog may want to look into making the title available on the platform if they hope to build an in-game economy via its multiplayer component. Similarly to Grand Theft Auto 5‘s GTA Online, Naughty Dog could periodically introduce expansions and new modes to keep players invested long after they’ve finished the main campaign. Should the Factions metagame return, fans will undoubtedly be sinking in a lot of time making sure their clan survives the apocalypse.

Multiplayer PS4 Games on PC | Gran Turismo Sport

Gran Turismo Sport, Nissan GT-R, Multiplayer PlayStation franchises, Multiplayer PS4 games

Multiplayer lies at the heart of Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo Sport. Many of the game’s online modes are tied to a real-world calendar of events that’s officially recognized by the FIA — the governing body for some of the world’s most popular auto championships. Winners of these events and the FIA Gran Turismo Championship are honored at an annual real-life ceremony in Paris, thus making every match with human opponents feel incredibly exciting.

While Sport has performed well in sales since its launch in 2017, a PC port could help reinvigorate the title’s player base now that it’s almost on its third year on the market. Cross-play is a must, as this would incentivize a large portion of the game’s fans to remain dedicated to improving their racing skills. Microsoft’s Forza franchise — one that has also been on PC for quite sometime — may have beaten Gran Turismo to the punch, but it doesn’t have one of the world’s most prestigious racing associations supporting it.

Multiplayer PS4 Games on PC | Bloodborne

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Multiplayer PlayStation franchises, Multiplayer PS4 games

A lot of PC players may already be familiar with how multiplayer works in Bloodborne thanks to their experience with FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series. Similarly to the Souls games, the Gothic horror RPG allows fans to help one another with boss battles or sabotage rivals via invasions. Bloodborne diverges most from the franchise through its randomly generated Chalice Dungeons, which vary in difficulty and length. Playing through one of these additional levels is a treat for fans of FromSoftware’s grueling gameplay design, as users could never tell what monstrosity awaits behind the door ahead of them. Writhing in agony with a partner somehow makes the experience more enjoyable than playing solo. Considering how well Dark Souls 3 sold on Steam in 2017, a PC port for Bloodborne seems obvious.

Of course, multiplayer isn’t the only draw of each title listed above but it’s what makes the most sense to put to other platforms, given how online games need a healthy community to stay alive. Sony’s goal to “lean into a wider installed base” shouldn’t be too hard so long as the PC ports widen the pool of players. At the very least, a quality port of Bloodborne alone should make scores of PC fans happy.
